Alert-Driven Community-Based Forest Monitoring: A Case of the Peruvian Amazon

Share this:

This research evaluates Peru’s National Forest Conservation Program (PNCB) for its contribution to REDD+ through community-based monitoring (CBM). CBM data enriched understanding of forest changes but faced challenges like delayed satellite alerts, data integration issues, and maintaining community engagement. Mobile devices improved data collection and response times. The study suggests expanding training, automating data flow, standardizing processes, and incentivizing communities to enhance CBM effectiveness and sustainability in forest monitoring.
